MOMENTS
It’s 8:30 in the morning and when I hop on a call with Karen Camp, Founder of This is the Day Ministries, and I can tell she’s already been awake for hours. “Oh I have!” she says, sounding like five cups of coffee and a bright sunny day combined. “I’ve always been a morning person!”
It’s no surprise then, that one of Karen’s most significant connections with Live Salted began through an Arise Hike, lead by Live Salted Director of Operations, Rochelle Hagenlocher.
When Karen moved to Kingston, Washington with her husband in 2020, she’d already been in ministry for over a decade in Kansas City, Missouri. “I’ve constantly felt like I was supposed to have a team but there I was, and it’d been 16 years, and it was still just me.
Karen’s unquenchable hunger led her to Live Salted, where she’s been watering the seeds God has planted, ever since.
“What Live Salted has done for me, is that it has fed my soul personally. I’m fed by women who are on fire for the Lord—and it just makes me crazy full when I am with these ladies. But it’s also given me such courage and guidance from a business standpoint. I’m not trying to be Live Salted, that’s not my ministry. But forever ago I was told, ‘it’s okay to be a copycat. Just be careful of the cat that you copy’. And Live Salted is such a sweet cat for me!”
In 2023, Karen heard about a Live Salted Conference from none other than founder, Krista Breilh. Krista was a connection she made through a friend of a friend. And it was at the conference, that God would show Karen that this is the day, and this is how you’re going to grow the seed that was planted in you so many years ago.
“He said, ‘Here I am! I literally brought you to the mountains and what are you gonna do with it? How are you gonna make connections and bring people to my creation? But … I could not figure out what that looked like. How do I take people? What does that even mean? I am very visual and I just couldn’t see it. So I’m sitting at the conference when they announce the Arise Hikes. I was like, oh my gosh! God! You’re about to give me the visual! I could not sign up for the next Arise Hike fast enough.”
Here is Karen’s journal entry, the day after she attended our conference:
“Growth comes from the hard. Yesterday was hard but it was in such a good way. I went to a conference all by myself. Literally, I knew no one there. Mingling is not my strong suit. But God, you showed me what it looks like to be sold out for you. You gave me a plan to study your word and you gave me new connections. I hope I look back on this day and it marks a huge step forward with you. “

Through Rochelle and the Arise Hikes, Karen saw a healthy model for fellowship, connection, and celebration that she could model in her own ministry—no matter where her ideas take her. Karen has always had “the good stuff” from God she wants to share, but now? Now, she’s not walking it alone.
“I prayed for God to show me what it means to have a team because I can’t do this on my own, and he sent me two ladies. One of them happens to be my daughter!”

Hana is the communication and administration manager at Live Salted. She is an author and blogger who is passionate about the written word and the power it has to connect people, create spaces for dialogue, to heal, and to inspire. One of Hana’s favorite things to fix her eyes on is God’s promise that she will bloom where she is planted: no matter what circumstance, no matter what place in her life. This is a theme found consistently in her books and blogs and she strives to inspire others to see the blooms in their own spaces. Hana is happily hopping from cafe to cafe in Seattle, Washington.
