MOMENTS
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” – Deuteronomy 31:6
I am never alone. It seems like a statement that no one should have a problem understanding or believing. I mean, the sole fact of knowing God is omnipresent should be enough to clear anyone’s mind of the doubts that they are alone, right?
Not so much.
To give a little background, I grew up in a God-loving home, went to a Christian school (until high school), and never missed church on a Sunday morning. Feeling God’s presence had never really presented as a problem for me.
I graduated High School and went on to study at Liberty University. My second semester of college arrived, along with a life-changing disaster.
I had grown up putting all my love and trust into my family, expecting to never be let down by them. So what was I supposed to do when the only thing in my life that was supposed to last forever, was falling apart?
No one knew what I was going through or how I felt. I mean they knew, but they didn’t know. I was surrounded by thousands of people, but I felt utterly alone. I had no one to turn to, I had no one cry to, I had no one to understand the hurt.
I don’t think that it helped my case that I wouldn’t talk to anyone about my hurts and loneliness. I felt that no one cared and no one would even understand. I felt like if I did share my feelings with anyone, they would just look at me as broken. I wasn’t used to feeling like I didn’t have it all together. I felt abandoned. I felt alone…
That’s when God stepped in.
“If the Lord had not been my help, my soul would soon have lived in the land of silence. When I thought ‘My foot slips,’ your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up.” Psalm 94:17-18
A couple of months of feeling alone and keeping to myself went on, and God finally gave me yet another push to come to Him with my hurt and loneliness. He provided me with a group of friends and support that helped me understand that God has never left my side. That God was walking through the struggles with me. That everyone is broken in their own way. That I am never alone.
“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8
Satan is always fighting to have you on his side. He is always planting seeds of doubt in your mind and trying to make you feel alone and insufficient; that God doesn’t want anything to do with you. BUT, never lose hope. The Lord has already gone before you, He is helping fight your battles. So run towards Him, not away from Him.
“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height one depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 8:38-39
God did not forsake Adam and Eve when He sent them out of the garden. God did not forsake the Israelites when they were in the desert wandering around. God did not forsake Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace. God did not forsake Daniel in the lion’s den. God did not forsake Jonah in the fish’s belly. God did not forsake Mary while she was pregnant.
Even after sin and disobedience, God has never forsaken His people. Even after listening to constant complaints and self-pity, God has never forsaken His people. There is nothing you can do, say, or feel to make God stop being your #1 fan.
