MOMENTS
Close your eyes and imagine … you’re walking into a wide-open room filled with that perfect early Saturday morning light, the aroma of fresh coffee lingering overhead, and the light chatter and easy smiles of women in all stages of life greeting you from every angle. You smile back, tentative.
The post you saw on Live Salted’s Instagram said their hope for the second annual conference is that today, lives will be changed, callings reimagined, chains broken, rest found, friendships formed, and the Holy Spirit poured. And you’re ready. You don’t know how to begin reimagining your life and your relationship with the Father but you know that’s something you deeply desire. So you take a deep breath and the hot cup of coffee a woman is placing into your hands and shoot back a smile. You know that you’ve taken a step in the direction you want to go simply by showing up.
Now, it’s God’s turn.
“Today, I’m meant to be a voice of healing for you,” began Jeremy Petty, pastor of The Journey Church, Seattle. “Abused by your fathers, betrayed by your husbands—made to feel less, abandoned—hurt. And the Father sees you. And he knows you. He knows everything about you, and He loves you anyway. And today, for whatever this is worth, by the Holy Spirit I stand in solidarity with you. I stand as someone who might represent abuse in your life and I’m telling you that the Father has plans for your life. That the trauma and abuse can’t defeat, steal, or destroy. You’re more valuable than what someone said about you … ”
Executive Director and Founder of Live Salted, Krista Breilh said, “I was hesitant at first when he [Pastor Jeremy] said he wanted to talk about being daughters of Christ. Because oftentimes, that kind of statement can come across as being cliché or just full of frou-frou language. But he was able to bring it with the authority that Christ truly does see us as being daughters of Christ, and it was such a gift to have him in that room.”
Pastor Jeremy joked with us about the pressure of being the first male communicator at a Live Salted event, “Don’t be intimidated just because you’re outnumbered,” he whispered to himself amidst laughter from his audience of 220 women representing 65 churches across the greater Seattle area and beyond. As the room settled in, he spoke about the true value of being daughters of Christ and said, “If you measure what God can do and what He will do based on a season, you might miss what this season is meant to prepare you for.”
“The Creator of the universe would want to be so close to you … that throughout scripture the label He would choose to give you would be ‘daughter’.” Pastor Jeremy Petty, The Journey Church
Speaker and Leadership Coach Emily Jamieson’s message about how to clearly hear God’s voice as His daughters solidified our conference theme of reimagining intimacy with God. One way of knowing what God is saying? Knowing what He isn’t. “The tone and texture of the enemy’s voice is accusatory. It’s false. He’s a liar. It’s divisive, it’s hurried, and [full of] comparison … The thumbprint of the enemy is self-protection and self-promotion.”
Author and Speaker Tiffany Bluhm reminded us to consent to reality and allow God to give us peace in the here and now, and Pastor Erin Sanchez of Reach Church encouraged us all to employ imagination when building intimacy with God. “I really believe that God has given us the gift of our imagination as a place to actually hear from God. You’d be surprised what happens when you just imagine Jesus with you …”
For a significant number of us in the room, reimagining our relationship with God meant responding to the Holy Spirit’s call to leadership. “We were shocked when 60-80 women moved forward for this response,” Krista said.
Additional highlights were the spirit-filled worship lead by Ife Oladoja and Kiki Edwards, as well as seeing a healthy representation of the diverse body of women we want to reach as a ministry.
“It was really sweet to be able to look out and just see the intergenerational and intercultural presentation in the room. We had people of all different ages, cultural backgrounds, churches.” And that included new moms, Krista said. “It was so sweet to see the different strollers lining the hallways and lining the room and seeing the hunger these moms had.”
Reimagine ended in typical, Live Salted fashion. “We always have a dance party at our events,” said Krista. “We end with such talking and jumping around with joy and laughter. We had people from college age to people in their 60s. It was such a vibrant, responsive, engaging, just beautiful space.”
We were so encouraged by this year’s conference, and we hope to have you join us at our next one! If you would like to join us in the future, check out our upcoming events calendar.
